Hi guys! Wow has it been long since I've posted. School/work/trying-to-keep-sane does that to you I guess though.
Here's my latest project! A multi-directional striped dress inspired by this lovely one I saw from Madewell

 photo JCrewInspiredStripedMulti-DirectionalDressMadewMoodFabricsMidBrightened_zps25d01eba.jpg

The pattern for the bodice and the sleeves is Simplicity 4802. The only changes I made to the  pattern were that I re-drafted the neckline, added length on the sleeves so I could do cuffs on the bottom, and then just added a lining.

The skirt pattern is self-drafted, meaning that I took two rectangles of fabric, added pleats, and pretended like I knew what I was doing. haha it works!

 photo MoodFabricsStripedMulti-DirectionalDressClose-up_zps83987111.jpg

Sorry by the way that I look so pissed off in these photos, I don't know what the deal is there. (Mom you were right, I should have smiled more. :)
 photo JCrewInspiredStripedMulti-DirectionalDressMadew-MoodFabricsBackFacingArmsCrossed_zpse0cb4079.jpg

Then an exposed metal zipper down the back to give the dress a bit more contrast (it was starting to feel a little too 60's homemaker for me, haha).
And that's that! Now I'm off to go watch One Direction interviews on YouTube. That's definitely the most productive thing I could be doing with my time right now so it's all good. haha they're seriously hilarious, I'm telling you.

Pattern: Vintage Simplicity 4802 (minor adjustments)

    1. Ugh isn't it the worst? It's so hard to balance both. That's why design school sounds so tempting because it's like, getting credit to sew? Heck yes! haha, obviously I know it's much harder than that but still! Makes it tempting :) What are you studying in school?

  21. That's an incredible location for your photos. The weather looks so bright and warm, perfect for your dress! It actually snowed here in Michigan last week... So long summer sun dresses! That's all right with me though. I really love autumn fashions. :D

    ReplyDelete

    1. Wow snow already?? Geez! actually now that I think about it I think that happened to us last year, snow on Halloween- no fun. But at least your snow is really pretty (or at least looks to be from your photos, and from the warm comforts of my house. :) haha)

I love autumn fashions as well, not so much for sewing because it's harder to make jackets and sweaters since I can't knit amazingly like you! But actually being able to wear cozy sweaters and boots and everything make it all worth it.
Speaking of Fall/Winter sewing though, I a just stumbling across your winter coat you made last January and oh my gosh!! Holy cow Suzanne it's beautiful. I'm like in awe right now, ha so beautifully made.

  35. This post is exactly what I've been looking for!

Just wondering how much fabric you used for the skirt part?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ah Olivia that makes my day to hear, thanks for telling me that.
For the skirt, well it depends on how tall you are but I am 5'10" and needed about 24" for this length, so you'd definitely be covered with 1 yard of fabric (plus more for the bodice of course!)

If you end up making it please send me a pic! I'd really love to see and I'm not just saying that. :)

  39. Hi Haylee!
It's obviously been WAY too long since I stopped by your blog. You have been stitching up a storm I see. Love the new blog look. And I am seriously crushing on your shoes!!! When I look at where you are with the sewing thing now, I feel seriously proud to say that I own a Haylee Atkinson origional apron! I've been wearing it quite a bit lately while making tasty treats. ;)
The altered details on this dress make it totally fab (ahh, that metal zip just gives it the pista resistance!). Happy Belated birthday!
