Black and White Peter Pan Collar Blouse

I just finished this shirt for my sister Sadie!

I really love how it turned out. We're not going to talk about how long it took me though, haha because I'm super embarrassed about that. I had trouble fitting time in with my school and long story short, she had to wait waay too long for me to be done with it. (Sorry again Sade!)

It looks cute on her though, doesn't it? That girl can wear anything I swear. She wanted a basic knit shirt with a contrasting collar, and a high neckline so there's a zipper in the back to make slipping it on and off easier. I love that she chose a gold one, I don't think I would have originally and I loove the way it looks.

The black fabric is lightweight sweater knit from Mood (that I would link to but they seem to be out of so can't), and the collar is made out of this silk crepe. I bought the zipper off Etsy and then the pattern is Simplicity 6271 just with a collar and zipper drafted in.

So since I haven't blogged forever I want to know how YOU all doing. I miss hearing from you guys! Tell me what the best part of your life is right now and what the worst part is. Let's see, mine are, that I'm really enjoying my classes this semester and have Spring Break next week. Holla! And worst, hm I don't know, maybe that's too deep of a question to ask on a blog post. haha you don't have to answer that part if you don't want to. For me it'd probably just be having to figure out my life and what I'm going to do career-wise and all that. Blah so much pressure! The 20's are intimidating.

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Another beautiful project, Haylee! It looks very stylish on your sister. I am actually just starting a blouse I'm making for my sis! I've never made a garment for anyone else before, so this project should be especially rewarding. I know, it is so difficult to find time to sew with college classes. It's wonderful that you are enjoying this semester, though! What are you majoring in? I'm in the same boat -- figuring out what I'm doing with my life! It is scary not knowing what the future holds. It's hard to choose, but I'd say the best part of my life right now is that I have so many opportunities at my fingertips. The worst thing is that I don't have time to do all of them, and choosing my priorities is difficult.

    1. I'm majoring in Nutritional Science! Well at least for the time being, haha I wouldn't be surprised if I changed my mind down the road. :) What are you majoring in? I totally understand the opportunities thing, that's exactly where I am right now too Ahh decisions, decisions! Why do they have to be so hard. Good luck with the blouse for your sister! I want to see how it looks when it's done!

    2. Nutritional Science sounds very interesting! Best of luck deciding on the best major for you, if you do decide to change! I am majoring in Textile and Apparel Studies with a Product Development emphasis and a minor in Marketing. I'm not sure exactly what kind of job I will be led to do with my degree. It's intimidating because the field is so competitive! I also have high hopes for owning my own clothing/sewing pattern business.

    3. That's awesome!! I had no idea you were going into that, ahh I can't say I'm not jealous a little bit. :) You'll be perfect for that, how far along are you in the program? Ya the competitive aspect is definitely intimidating but you seriously have nothing to worry about. I for one would definitely buy your clothes or sewing patterns! (And your photography too if that was an option. :)

  2. I MISSED YOU!!! And your fun posts! you are the cutest girl, and so amazingly talented. I hope your sis loved the shirt, I'm sure she did! Please post more :)

I posted two sewing projects last week, you should check them out! But no judging ;) Have a great weekend, Haylee!!

    1. Rachel!! Oh my gosh k, so I totally follow your blog already so I'd seen the pictures of that floral skirt (but didn't comment because I'm creepy like that) and holy cow, I never had realized that you MADE it until just now. Rachel I'm in love!! Look at you holding all this talent in that we didn't even know about. Seriously why don't you sew more? You're amazing! I love the pink pockets, it's so true skirts with pockets are about 100x better. And I love the chiffon material you used too. Rachel seriously I'm super impressed, excellent job!

  3. Love the look, you can never go wrong with a Wednesday Addams/Zooey Deschanel shirt. Best part of life right now: just finished my albion coat, and it turned out just the way I wanted. Worst part: being surrounded by people who think hobbies are stupid. Fortunately, it won't be like this forever :). As far as figuring out your career whatnot goes, you shouldn't worry too much, you can always change your mind. What are you thinking about doing?

    1. Seriously Hannah every time I look at your blog I feel so inspired by everything you make. Your sewing, your cooking, your drawings! You truly are so inspiring. I wasn't able to find the coat you made, am I just blind or have you not posted it yet?
I loove what you did with the Stylish Dress Book pattern book. That dress is adorable, I really love the color. I'm so happy you were the one that ended up winning it!
That's a good point about being able to change your mind. I need to remember that. Right now school-wise I'm thinking Nutritional Science but as for all other aspects of my life, I have no idea, haha what about you, are you in school right now?

  4. That shirt is so lovely - I'm inspired to have a play around with some patterns here and see what I can come up with :)

Best thing in my life right now - my daughter. She's just turned 12 and she's become an amazing young woman, and I'm enjoying our relationship so much at the moment.
Worst thing in my life - nothing so bad that I'd bother complaining about it :)

    1. I love that age! I feel so old saying that but that seriously was my favorite year growing up. 6th grade right? Ya that age rocked, at least for me. I'm glad you and your daughter are able to be so close right now, That's such a beautiful thing and really shows a lot of you as a mother I think. Because not every mom makes their kids feel that way. I'm lucky to have a mom that's the same way and you know what? I'm 20 and we're still best friends. haha so I think that's awesome, what's your daughters name?

  5. 20's are intimidating!!! I'm right there with you!

The best thing? I've been super proud if my sewing makes so far in 2014, am looking forward to going back to school for my BFA part time this summer, plan in taking the summer (and maybe long) off from regular work so I can concentrate on my art, have great friends a some fune weekend away planned....

Worst? We've had one pet illness after another and it's getting very discouraging and draining. I love my fury babies! My house is also currently always a mess (making me feel like a 20-something pseudo-adult failure!), and with work right now I don't have the energy to sew and work on my art making barely at all. Hopefully this will all be behind me in a few months?

Your shirt looks great! I like to sew for my sister, too. We have the same measurements, except she's 5'7" and I'm 5'-nada! So often I'll sew something for me that winds up not looking good, but it look amazing on her! she can wear anything, too!

    1. Rachel your summer sounds amazing!! That's really cool you're getting your BFA, are you majoring in something specific or can you just get a general major in fine arts? I'm not sure how that works exactly, that's really really cool though.

haha oh my gosh I'm so with you on the cleaning thing. I'm in the exact same situation!! I won't even tell you how long it's been since I've cleaned my kitchen, or vacuumed.. haha, hey we have the rest of our lives to worry about little things like that, right? :) just as long as no one comes over, I'm good!

  6. What a cute top! Lucky sister! It's so nice to see a post from you! I'm very happy today because it's the first warm day we've had in months- the sun is shining and it feels like spring might actually appear! The hardest thing right now in my life is a pretty unsuccessful struggle to manage my schedule and balance my time, but that's not so bad, is it? :)

    1. Oh my gosh same! Yesterday was our first warm day too and it's been glorious. I just hope it doesn't get any warmer, haha TOO hot is not my favorite thing either. Spring is great though because it's the perfect middle ground. Especially in your part of the country!

Ya I'm right there with you, it's hard to know how much time to give yourself, if that makes sense. Like when there's always so much to do, Knowing when to draw the line. You seem to be balancing it really well though, with work and still being able to find time to sew/and do MSN on top of that! Man seriously I'm impressed you're able to do that let alone all other parts of your life.

  7. Hello! Welcome back. This is a super cute top. What a lucky sister.
The best thing going on for me right now is that I'm buying a new home. Its going to have a whole huge sewing room for me to use. I can't wait!
The worst thing is that my flat still hasn't sold. Although it doesn't affect my new house plans its reeeeeally frustrating.

    1. Wow! Now that's some exciting news, your house sounds amazing! Good luck with the flat too, heck I'll come buy it! haha I wish, I've been wanting to come to the UK for so long.

  10. This looks so luxe, your sister is lucky to have you! I'm working on the Ziggi stylearc jacket right now so the worst part of my life is cutting out about 45 pieces. But the best part is hey, I'm sewing, so I can't complain! :)

Choosing a career is so much pressure, but don't sweat it too much. It's a starting point to evolve from, not something set in stone. I would say think about your personality and what the day-to-day realities of a job are like. People think too much about what classes they like and forget about those things. Like, don't chose a career where you can only get a job in a major city if you are a country girl. Or, even if you really like studying medicine, don't be doctor if you'll hate talking to people all day. Stuff like that!

    1. 45 pieces!?? Holy cow, props to you for taking that on. I'm not sure I'd have the guts! That's seriously really impressive Jamie
Thanks so much for the career advice by the way. That's exactly what I needed to hear honestly, and I love how you say it's not set in stone. That's true and I really need to be better at remembering that. And funny because I actually am considering something in the health field and the only thing stopping me is that I'm not sure I want to talk to work with people all day. haha so very impressive on that, you were spot on! Thanks again Jamie.

    1. Ahh Sadie I'm seriously so glad you like it. Really that makes me SO happy because your style is something I really admire so the fact that you would wear it means a lot to me.

By the way, did you see the Jungle Jim comment above? Was that you!?

  14. Thanks so much Ashley! By the way is this Ashley Fastle? That's who it look likes in the profile pic but I can't tell for sure because it's small and no profile is linked to your name. Just curious, haha but ahh that sounds amazing, I know someone that had one for hers and it was gorgeous!! Very nice pick.

  15. I don't have many bad things going in my life, just good :) The biggest is that I'm waiting to hear if I've been accepted to something HUGE! I can't divulge what that is, but please say your prayers that everything works out. I'm an iffy choice, and I hope my mom who is watching down over me (she died when I was a teenager), will make sure what should happen, does.
