So it took me long enough but I finally got around to finishing this dress.
I wasn't planning on making the lace one but then Joann's came along and had to tempt me with perfect fabric so I decided to just go ahead with it. It looks slightly familiar but what can I say, I love lace dresses. :)
I wanted to do a scalloped hem but it would have made the dress at least an inch shorter and I wanted to be able to wear it to church, so the straight hem it was.
I used Burda 7494 for the bodice and an old school Simplicity 4802 pattern for the skirt.
The collar is kind of messed up due to my grand idea of using interfacing to make it thicker. I thought I'd need it if I wanted it to look more like a "real collar" but it ended up making the seam allowances on the facing too bulky and blahh. At this point I'm just glad it's done.

Ignore my freakily red legs in this picture. ha I was standing in front of a fireplace right before.
I am glad how the back of the collar turned out though, because I kind of just winged that part at the last minute. The original pattern didn't have a back collar which I didn't like (what's the point of having a collar if it's only half of one? I thought that was kind of odd) so I added that using the back facing pattern piece as a guide.
Yes I'm taking pictures of this dress in the snow. ha probably not the smartest thing I've ever done but oh well. You do what you gotta do my friends.
Happy New Years Eve everybody! Anybody have any fun plans?
Happy New Years Eve everybody! Anybody have any fun plans?

Very pretty. I like the white dress with the snow.
ReplyDeleteI love it, and I also loved the older one you linked to!
ReplyDeleteI think my plans are super fun, snuggling up in bed and finishing the sixth Harry Potter book! To most people though, that's probably a terribly un-fun New Year's Eve.
No way! That sounds like my kind of night. Seriously though, that sounds about like how I spent my evening. Nice and relaxing. Plus Harry Potter makes everything just about 10x better so that most definitely does not sound like an un-fun night to me. I wish I could join you!
DeleteIt was GLORIOUS! And then I feel asleep at 10pm ;]
DeleteYou are so freakin talented! I wish i could sew but my fine motor skills suck;) When I become a famous blogger will you sew me clothes? :)
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! I love this dress so much! It's so sweet! It's strange that there wasn't a back collar piece-- what gives?
ReplyDeleteI'm partying HARD for NYE... by which I mean wearing pajamas, eating frozen pizza, and watching old movies on TCM with my in-laws. So exciting! :) Happy 2013!
Happy new year!! :)

ReplyDeleteMy goodness this dress is freaking adorable! I love the collar, and you're so right to add the back part - great job. I seem to recall that the dress is the Burdastyle book has a stupid half collar as well which has put me off making it. Love your mustard shoes as well.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THAT DRESS, wow I would buy that if it was in stores, no joke. I love your taste in clothes, it's very similar to mine, I love girly feminine clothing like that. I am astounded you MADE that, wow that is incredible and takes a lot of talent. It looks beautiful on you as well. The dress is perfect for easter/spring/summer.

that's darling haylee!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carly!
Deleteso lovely!
ReplyDeleteOooh, this look great! I made a dress using Burda 7494 last year (never blogged about it, but then again, it's been a long time since I blogged about anything new), but had some major fitting issues. It was gaping at both the back and front neckline. I fixed the back, but I'd have to take off the collar to fix the front, which will probably never happen :p Too bad, cause I adore the dress apart from the gaping.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment on my skirt, btw :) I'm looking forward to seeing some more of your sewing projects!
I had the gaping issue too! I had to do some major adjusting and it still isn't perfect, but ya you definitely aren't alone with that one. I wonder if it's a popular problem. Thanks for the sweet comment though, I really look forward to future posts/projects from you!
Deleteit's so pretty!!
