Sewn : Winter White Lace Dress

Monday, December 31, 2012

So it took me long enough but I finally got around to finishing this dress.

I wasn't planning on making the lace one but then Joann's came along and had to tempt me with perfect fabric so I decided to just go ahead with it. It looks slightly familiar but what can I say, I love lace dresses. :)

I wanted to do a scalloped hem but it would have made the dress at least an inch shorter and I wanted to be able to wear it to church, so the straight hem it was.

I used Burda 7494 for the bodice and an old school Simplicity 4802 pattern for the skirt.
The collar is kind of messed up due to my grand idea of using interfacing to make it thicker. I thought I'd need it if I wanted it to look more like a "real collar" but it ended up making the seam allowances on the facing too bulky and blahh. At this point I'm just glad it's done.

Ignore my freakily red legs in this picture. ha I was standing in front of a fireplace right before.

I am glad how the back of the collar turned out though, because I kind of just winged that part at the last minute. The original pattern didn't have a back collar which I didn't like (what's the point of having a collar if it's only half of one? I thought that was kind of odd) so I added that using the back facing pattern piece as a guide.

Yes I'm taking pictures of this dress in the snow. ha probably not the smartest thing I've ever done but oh well. You do what you gotta do my friends.

Happy New Years Eve everybody! Anybody have any fun plans?

Sewn : Dinosaur Stuffed Animal

Tuesday, December 25, 2012

I made this little guy for my nephew for Christmas this year.

I am totally not a hand-sewer so that explains why it very much looks handmade. ha, but it took freaking forever so I wanted to post about it anyways. Besides, really all my nephew cares about is the fact that it has cool sharp teeth and that it's a big dinosaur.

I got the pattern from Tiddliwink Toys on Etsy. She has some really cute patterns that don't look hard to make, they just take forever. Well I guess I should say they take ME forever, but I really do suck at hand sewing so that's probably why. I also ran across this hippo stuffed animal pattern while in my search and oh my gosh. I died. Why did I ever have to grow up? Seriously I need to make my own stuffed-hippo-family right now.
