Crafted : Mother's Day Garland

Sunday, May 13, 2012

I made this garland for my beautiful Mama for Mother's day.
The idea sort of has a back story. When I was little I made a similar one for my mom to thank her for letting me fake sick one day. (She didn't know that of course. Still doesn't.. haha, surprise Mom!)
That garland hung over her bathroom door for years, until the colors faded and the strings fell off. So I decided to make her a new one, filled with new things I love and admire about her.

To make it I just sewed a bunch of paper circles onto a long sewn thread. (If you have a Cricket machine this project would be even easier.) Then I wrote little things I liked and appreciated about her on each of the circles.

Obviously it's not long enough to list all of the many things I am thankful to her for but it's a start.
Thank you mama for loving me, raising me, dealing with my quirks, and for being my best friend.
I love you!

  1. That is such a simple yet gorgeous idea! I'd love to make something similar but I think the cats would have far to much fun playing and tearing it apart!

  11. Haylee, it's been a little while since i last popped by but i'm glad to be subscribed because i saved this post - it's one of the sweetest things i've ever seen! i loved hearing it's back story and how your Mama 's previous garland was never taken down until now. that is such a testament to how much pride your fams feels for you!

the new one is beautiful, symbolic too because like with the best things in life. when we get closer they take a different shape and we get to appreciate them in a whole new way. you've done that here and it's wonderful!!

i also HAVE to say you've got the COOLEST brother in all the land! it's no wonder b/c you're the coolest sister too :)

    happy week wishes. xo ♥
