Crafted : Neighborhood Party Invites

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

Ok so first I have to say that I am soo not a graphic designer. Photoshop is a foreign concept to me and the thought of creating something digitally scares the crap out of me. (Seriously how do these people do it?) But I do really, really want to learn. Like really badly. So I'm making an attempt.
(That was my disclaimer by the way. So none of you out there better be thinking I know what I'm doing or anything. )

My first attempt came in the form of invitations for my mom. The cute lady thought it would be a fun idea to throw a neighborhood get together so she offered to pay me to make the invites. (Score! Money and practice? Now that's my kind of deal.)

I was pleasantly surprised with how they turned out given that I was expecting to hate them
not to like them very much.
I guess it's just nice to know I don't always have to rely on Etsy. (Though a big part of my spending money will most likely end up there anyways. ha )

What's something you've always wanted to learn how to do?

  1. sewing! And I am learning more every time I try though :)
Ah I am actually in love with your blog! You are so talented I would love to be able to do the things you do, and you do it with one hand! I find that so amazing. Hope you're going okay and I hope you're liking school <3

  2. Haylee you are such a gorgeous girl and such an inspiration! You are so talented, seriously, what's your secret? I love that you're not afraid to try new things/new hobbies. I wish I could meet you in person!!!

  3. Sew more than straight lines. :) I'm actually planning on learning this Christmas break! I can't wait! These are sups cute though! Great job!

  4. Haylee you are super talented-- this goes to show that your creativity and artistry carry over to many different areas! I like them a lot. Super simple, just my style.
I have always wanted to learn photography and how to sing. I feel like I have a good eye, but I would love to have someone teach me about light. As for the singing, I think it may be a bit too late for that... ha ha, I have fun pretending anyway.

  5. Anon- Thank you!! Gosh that's so sweet of you to say. Even though I don't know who you are I wish I could meet you in person too because you clearly are a very nice person.

SLC- Ah I'm with you on the photography! I want to learn that so badly, I admire photographers so much because of that. And ya right it's too late. Heck Susan Boyle did it, didn't she? :)

  6. Kaleigh- For some reason your blog won't let me comment on your posts but I just wanted to tell you that those muffins you made looks scrumptious and I think you should post pictures of your prom. :) Even though I know it was a few months ago.

  7. I would love to learn how to sew, like really well. (:
Excellent job, I would hire you to make something for me!

  8. Haylee- Thanks for letting me know! I think I fixed the comment thing... and prom pics are upppp! haha.

  9. Okay, even if you aren't a graphic designer...i'm still totally jealous about your mad skills on this. I've been trying to revamp my blog graphics and practicing in photoshop and frankly i suck at it. Love these!

  10. Haylee, never downplay your obvious talent! these are awesome and for your first foray into graphics i'm completely and utterly blown away! love the bunting, these are really sweet and very good use of white space. you'll find your way around any software i've no doubt. the talent just oozes out of every pore with you. xoox ♥

  11. Those are so cute! I would hire you to make invitations for me. :) A+

  12. I have always wanted to have a neighborhood potluck! Seriously... The invites came out adorable:)

  13. Haylee--

Thank you so much for linking to me in your blog! I keep seeing you pop up in my Etsy redirected links and wanted to stop by and say that I appreciate it!

You've got a natural eye for design ;) don't sell yourself so short! Keep it up. The mire you do, the more you'll learn!
